There is (was) a Pace's Mill

It was a curiosity that we know (so to speak) where the Pace House is in Vinings - on Paces Mill Rd. The question being: Was there a Pace's Mill, and if so where....?

Now we sorta know.
After looking at Union and Confederate Army maps, I was convinced the "mill" was on Rottenwood Creek, and spent some time zigzagging along the banks thereof looking for it. Nada. Then I found the missing clue in a Federal "Water Power Survey" from 1908, which took a water gage reading on the Chattahoochee River at "Pace's Mill site" 3/10 of a mile north from the southern end of Long Island, and 3/10 of a mile south of Rottenwood Creek -walla... It's not on Rottenwood Creek at all.
The measured distance puts the location somewhat immediately south of the I-75 bridge, which likely was obliterated from bridge construction.

Pending cooperation of the National Park Service and an archaeological survey of same, perhaps a walk up from the Paces Mill area on 41, will indeed reflect at least a marker of same.
